ScienceDirect offers direct export of book citations and PDFs of book chapters to Mendeley via the Mendeley web importer. You can create a Mendeley account and learn more at the Mendeley website.
- In ScienceDirect, search for a book you would like to read and select the chapter or chapters you wish to import by clicking the checkbox to the left of each. When you make no selection, all chapters will be imported. Then click “Export” and a drop-down box will appear with available options.
- The Mendeley Web Importer opens now. If you are not already signed in to your Mendeley account, you need to sign in now or create a new account before continuing. If you want to save the PDFs of the chapters versus only citations make sure “Download PDFs if available” is checked off. To continue click “Save all”.
- Once the selected chapters have all been imported the pop-up box will change to indicate the files were saved. You can select “Web Library” to view the chapters in your Mendeley Web Library. If you close the box you will still see the exported documents in the “Recently Added” section in your Mendeley Web Library, as well as the next time you sync your Mendeley Desktop program.
